Examinations

With a strong pass rate and expert preparation programs, we help students and professionals confidently achieve the language certification required for study and work in Germany.

1. Overview

At Nia Sprachenakademie, examinations are a cornerstone of the student journey. Our assessment philosophy is built on a single principle: every student who sits an international examination must be genuinely ready to succeed. To achieve this, we operate a rigorous two-stage examination system — internal Nia Prüfungen followed by internationally recognised external certifications — supported by focused preparation training at
every transition point.
This document outlines the full examination pathway, the standards applied at each level, and the support structures in place to ensure student success.

2. The Two-Stage Examination System

Nia Sprachenakademie operates a sequential, two-stage examination model designed to protect students from unnecessary exam failure and repeat costs, while maintaining the highest possible standards of language competency.

3. Internal Nia Prüfungen

The internal Nia Prüfungen are conducted at the completion of each CEFR language level. These are formal, structured examinations held under exam conditions and are deliberately set to a higher standard than the international examinations themselves. This approach ensures that students who achieve our internal pass marks are well-prepared and confident when they sit their external certification.

3.1 Four Competency Assessment

To be awarded a pass at any level, a student must demonstrate satisfactory performance in all four language competencies. Passing three out of four competencies is not sufficient — a student must meet the required standard in every component:
  • Reading (Leseverstehen): Comprehension of written texts, including academic, professional, and everyday materials appropriate to the CEFR level.
  • Writing (Schreiben): Production of written texts demonstrating correct grammar, vocabulary, coherence, and appropriate register.
  • Listening (Hörverstehen): Understanding of spoken German in various formats including conversations, announcements, and recordings.
  • Speaking (Sprechen): Oral production and interaction demonstrating fluency, accuracy, pronunciation, and communicative competence.
A student who does not meet the pass mark in one or more competencies will be required to resit only the failed component(s) before proceeding. This ensures that no student is registered for an international examination with a weakness in any skill area.

3.2 Internal Pass Marks by Level

The following minimum scores are required for each level. These marks are set above the pass thresholds of international examinations to create a performance buffer that maximises student success in external assessments.

Important: A student must pass ALL FOUR competencies at or above the required mark. Passing the overall average whilst failing one competency does not constitute a pass. All competencies must be satisfied independently.

4. International Examinations

Upon successful completion of the internal Nia Prüfung at the relevant level, students are awarded the Nia Internal Certificate of Proficiency. This certificate serves as the gateway to registration for an internationally recognised German language examination.
Nia Sprachenakademie registers students for examinations from two leading international examining bodies:

Both certifications carry equal international standing and are accepted by German embassies, universities, healthcare institutions, and employers across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Nia advisors will assist each student in selecting the most appropriate certification based on their specific career or academic pathway.
